Winter Is Coming
It's been one of those periods of time where I've been really busy but also listening to a lot of music as a result of many hours spent at a computer. Today's a shitty ol day here in Perth so, with no further ado, I figured I'd share some of my recent favourites with you to try and put a smile on your dial...
Let's just start with the obvious... Daft Punk. The album release is now within spitting distant (if you could spit into the future... although when you think about, whenever you spit you're kinda spitting into the future all the time) and the internet has been swamped with info on the release, some rare interviews, new Daft fashion with YSL, interviews with all the collaborators and countless remixes and edits of 20 second loops and entire tracks. Don't get me wrong - I love Get Lucky - but way back after that first little snippet was released on SNL the Hood Internet dudes got busy at killing two insanely good birds with one large boulder. This mash-up is one of the best going around:
The Collective channel continues to grow - in tracks, subscribers and views - and two of my favourites on there are pretty uplifting, garage-y house numbers. Big bass, big chords and big vocals. Karma Kid is making some exceptionally exciting music.
I posted a Laberge track on here some time (years) ago and I still dig it. He's back with some new releases and this one fits the whole sleezy, hazy, ain't-easy-bein-cheesy sorta vibe. Idle up behind some unsuspecting lady and get groovin'.
Sydney duo Softwar have just released a little EP - 2 tracks and 2 remixes - on the Modular spawned imprint, Club Mod. In short: it burns. Steamin' house at it's finest.
Softwar play in Perth on Sunday June 30 at the Aviary.

Are they the best?
This is the third and final (for now) mix in the series of exclusive mixes for Triple J that potentially puts Flight Facilities on a DJ pedestal, if they weren't up there already. It's mixes like this that show why the lads can visit your local town 3 times in a as many months, aptly clad in vintage flight jackets and hats, and sell out every show. It's mixes like this, and the two before it (as well as every other mix tape they've released) that show a breadth and depth of music knowledge that is guaranteed to heat up any dance floor on the globe. It's mixes like this that make you understand why producers can be so successful after releasing a mere 4, albeit huge, singles in as many years and tour the globe after each one. It's mixes like this that make me believe that Flight Facilities are just about the best DJs in Australia right now.
Stream this bitchin' mumma of 80 tracks in one hour or download it right now, right here.
Jimmy and Hugo will be in Perth on May 11 to play at the Bakery with Elizabeth Rose (collaborator on upcoming single I Didn't Believe) and will be supported by Willy Slade of Bastian's Happy Flight and little ol' me. Grab your tickets from Now Baking and keep in mind proceeds are going to charity. Thank fuck it's almost the weekend.

Akuna feat Jagwar Ma
Hola! I'll be playing some tunes tomorrow night at Llama Bar for Akuna in support of Future Classic's new noise makers, Jagwar Ma. Check out their ravely reviewed track The Throw and another gem, Come Save Me, below. You can grab their stuff on iTunes too. I'd say it's a bit like Tame Impala x Canyons x The Beach Boys. I'ma diggin' it.
There's a good chance I'll play either or both of these:

Carry You Home
The Collective Club YouTube channel has just alerted me to a very smooth, lover's jam from the Spaniard, El_Txef_A. This came out on a Pets Recordings compilation compiled by Catz n Dogz earlier in the year. There are now two more volumes of this series. It's slightly hit n miss in my opinion but there are a number of great tracks on there.
This one from Kixnare also features on the compilation mentioned above.
Here's a pretty nice remix from Kixnare that's also free for download:
Have a scroll through the Collective Club channel while you're on the Tube - there's some great stuff in there.

So much good stuff.
Hola! Amsterdam's Uffe is making some great, deep stuff. Getting love from Maribou State and many others.
On that note the new Maribou State EP 'Scarlet Groove' is insane. When the boys were in Perth a couple of weeks ago they confirmed that their reinvigoration of Fat Boy Slim's 'Praise You' is due for an official release soon. You can find it in THIS mix tape form Rinse FM.
This remix of mine is due out in the next few months I think. In case you missed it when Arthur's Landing shared it a while ago I just uploaded a copy:
Gig hungry? Daniel Bortz is playing this Friday night at The Good Shepherd, hosted by Lucid Dreaming. Info here.

Back.
I've been very quiet on the kitty front. I'm sorry. I truly am. But I'm brimming with loads of new music. Firstly I'm just going two mention two YouTube channels you should add to your favourites: Majestic Casual and Eton Messy. The volume of good music shared by these channels is ridiculous to say the least. Bookmark them now and hit them daily. A couple of my recent favourites from them include:
Plenty of the tracks posted on the above channels are free for download so keep your eyes peeled. Outside of YouTube Classixx have released a new single that can run hand in hand with the new track from Goldroom. Similar vibe, similar time, same city.
In terms of gigs there's a cracker on this weekend. It's a two night affair and double tix covering the two nights are still available. Um, how does T. Williams, Julio Bashmore, Maribou State and Gold Panda sound? Fucking epic? Yeah, I thought so.
And yes, that pic above is Jimmy from Flight Facilities answering an "anonymous" call during the last set in Perth.
